A former waitress, ballerina, bookseller, and publicist, Margaret DeRosia is a writer and historian originally from Michigan. She writes historical fiction about history’s ghosts—the people whom historical accounts repress, ignore, and in so doing, disappear.

Margaret received her BA in Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan and her PhD from the History of Consciousness Department at the University of California at Santa Cruz. She has taught film history, literature, gender and digital media studies at the Universities of California at Berkeley and Santa Cruz, Sonoma State University, the California College of the Arts, and Western University, and now works as a senior content designer at CIBC. Her debut novel, Eight Strings, an instant bestseller, is a work of historical fiction set in the glittering milieu of late nineteenth-century Venetian marionette theater (Simon & Schuster Canada, March 14, 2023). Currently, she resides in Toronto with her wife and two cats.
